Man at Kiosk
Project: NWS - Configuration Management System (NWS CMS)
Location: National Weather Service Headquarters Silver Springs, MD
Description: ONS developed a database driven, Web based configuration management system to provide a centralized webpage/software configuration module for multiple divisions within the National Weather Service. This project cut hundreds of hours of coordination between field office’s Information Technology Officers when it came time to update project web pages when a national change was to be implemented. This project manages the actions of 625+ users within the National Weather Service Field Offices and Headquarters staff (eliminated 100's of flat configuration files). Additionally, this gave the NWS a series of divisional websites that have a consistent look and feel, which provided their organization with a more organized and professional Web presence.

Project: NWS - Climate xmACIS
Location: National Weather Service Headquarters Silver Springs, MD
Description:

ONS teamed with ACIS Applied Climate Information Systems Group to get a specific type of climate data integrated into the National Climate Web-suite. The Applied Climate Information System (ACIS) developed and maintained by the NOAA Regional Climate Centers (RCCs) is designed to manage the complex flow of information from climate data collectors to the end users of climate information. Its purpose is to both alleviate the burden of climate information management for people that require climate information to make management decisions and the manipulate data for basic and applied research. ACIS brings historical climate information and near real-time data together under one umbrella system where they are fused into quality products to assess historical climate trends, enhance daily operational decisions, or assist with any number of climate dependent activities.
